Winners in Paris: Roland Garros 2025 Recap

From start to finish, Roland Garros 2025 delivered pure entertainment. Every round was packed with upsets, comebacks, and breakout performances that had us glued to the screen. Whether it was the electric atmosphere on Court Philippe-Chatrier or the raw chaos of the outer courts, this year’s tournament gave us everything: five-set marathons, emotional crowd favorites, and next-generation stars proving they're ready for the moment.

#2 Coco Gauff Victory Over #1 Aryna Sabalenka

Lets first start off with the championship final last Saturday. On the women’s side, we got a show. #2 Coco Gauff secured her first Roland Garros trophy with her victory over #1 ranked, Aryna Sabalenka with a final score line of 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

After being down the first set after a tight tiebreak against Sabalenka, Gauff came back swinging in the second set which left Sabalenka rattled. Gauff continued her winning ways in the third set with her mental toughness which helped the 21 year old American clinch her first Roland Garros trophy. This is Coco Gauff’s second Grand Slam title, and this is the first time an American woman has won the French Open since Serena in 2015

While tennis is a game that revolves around the performance of great sportsmanship, Aryna Sabalenka’s post-final comments about Coco Gauff caused quite the stir. During her post match press conference, she downplayed Gauff’s win, saying, “I think she won the match not because she played incredible; just because I made all of those mistakes.” That rubbed many the wrong way on social media the wrong way but she later clarified on Instagram, saying, “Coco handled the conditions much better than I did and fully deserved the win,” and praised her opponent for playing “with poise and purpose.”

Despite the drama about her comments, Sabalenka played great throughout the tournament and may have let emotions cloud her judgement. I do not think she deserves the hate that she has been receiving in some of these comment sections on social media.

Lastly, I would like to say congratulations to Coco Guaff for her brilliant performance from the start to finish of the end of the French Open. I am extremely excited to see how she performs in the next grand slam, Wimbledon.

#2 Alcaraz Comeback Victory Over #1 Sinner – A Clay Court Final for the Ages

Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner might have been the greatest Roland Garros final I have ever seen. The match, in total, was five hours and twenty-nine minutes, spanned five sets, and ended in a wild fifth-set tiebreak, the first ever in a French Open men’s final. The final score line of the match was  4–6, 6–7, 6–3, 7–6, 7–6(10–2), with Alcaraz securing his second Roland Garros trophy.

At the beginning of the match, Sinner looked locked in for the first two sets and dictated the pace for the first half of the match. While Alcaraz won the third set, Sinner seemed to have the chance to avenge himself after the Rome Open final with the advantage of having championship points. Alcaraz, who looked like the spirit of Rafeal Nadal took over, saved three championship points down 0-40 on serve. The relentless battle between Alcaraz and Sinner led to the fifth set tiebreak which resulted in Carlos winning 10-2 with an insane line shot.

I was absolutely hyped to see Alcaraz celebrate with the ball boy & girls at the end of the match. Seeing the little things that the Spanish player does just makes him such a likeable tennis player. His behavior on and off the court makes it easy to love him. Congratulations to Alcaraz for the back-to-back Roland Garros trophies.

While Alcaraz came out on top with the victory, I have to give credit to Jannik Sinner. The Italian player gave his all on the clay court with an impressive performance throughout the match. One of the most impressive highlights from the final was Sinner’s insane shot at the net.

Both players balled out and played one of the greatest tennis matches I have witnessed. I absolutely cannot wait for the two players to return to Wimbledon in a few weeks. If they end up playing each other again, I would not be surprised if everyone's attention would be glued to that rematch.

Tennis commentary on Vintage & Coupe will be back for Wimbledon this month.
